Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), an ancient healthcare system. TCM believes that the body's vital energy, known as qi, flows along specific channels or meridians. When the qi is balanced, a person experiences spiritual, emotional, and physical health. However, an imbalance in the qi can lead to disease.

By using acupuncture on specific points within the meridians, it is believed that the flow of blocked or stagnant qi can be improved. This can unblock the meridians, restore the movement of qi, and improve health.

Western science has begun to explore how acupuncture works. Some modern explanations include the discovery of water-rich channels in connective tissue, which support the existence of acupuncture meridians. Research also shows acupuncture can regulate blood circulation and stimulate the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters, aiding in pain management and hormonal regulation.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Licensed acupuncturists are well-trained to insert acupuncture needles comfortably. Most patients don't feel any sensation when the needles are inserted and are amazed at how thin and small the needles are. Acupuncture needles differ entirely from those used in blood draws and vaccinations. They are hair-thin, solid filiform needles that are sterile and single-use. At SimplyStrong, we use a gentle and effective acupuncture technique and prioritize the comfort of our patients.

How many treatments will I need?

The effects of treatments build upon each other. For the most effective and long-term results, it is recommended that a series of treatments be completed. The number of treatments recommended is determined based on the severity and longevity of the condition. Most patients begin with a series of 6-8 treatments, at which point we will reevaluate and determine if additional care is necessary. The frequency of treatments ranges from 1 to 3 visits per week. Acute conditions resolve much quicker with an intensive frequency, 2 to 3 treatments per week. Chronic conditions require a more extended series of treatments, and a frequency of 1 treatment per week is recommended. Chinese Medicine is excellent for preventive and maintenance health care. In this case, patients will come in for treatment one or two times per month.

What is community acupuncture?

Community acupuncture is a model of acupuncture treatment that aims to make acupuncture more affordable and accessible. In this approach, patients receive treatments in a group setting, often in a large room with multiple recliners or tables. This allows practitioners to treat several people at once, reducing the cost per session for each individual. Sessions typically last about an hour and can foster a sense of community and support among patients.

What is mobile acupuncture?

In - home acupuncture is a service where an acupuncturist travels to the patient’s location, such as their home or another convenient setting, to provide acupuncture treatments. This model offers flexibility and convenience for patients who may have difficulty visiting a traditional clinic due to mobility issues, busy schedules, or prefer a more private setting. In-home acupuncture can include various treatments addressing various health concerns and is conducted with the same professionalism and care as in-clinic sessions.

What is cosmetic acupuncture?

Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as facial rejuvenation acupuncture, is a specialized form of acupuncture that focuses on improving the appearance of the skin and reducing signs of aging. Practitioners insert fine needles into specific points on the face and body to stimulate blood flow, promote collagen production, and enhance skin elasticity. The goal is naturally achieving a more youthful and radiant appearance without requiring invasive procedures or chemicals. In addition to its aesthetic benefits, cosmetic acupuncture can improve overall health.
